Job brief

We are looking for a high-energy, competent and positive individual to take on a role within our financial department. The role will be a combination of bookkeeping and invoicing, and will be a great fit for someone with an entrepreneurial attitude to join our growing engineering firm!

The ideal candidate would have experience working in an accounting role, have strong communication skills and a strong understanding of computerized accounting systems. In tandem, the candidate will be able to juggle shifting priorities while ensuring good time management and the ability to follow through on tasks.

This team member will also be responsible for the support of the senior bookkeeper and CFO.

Preference will be given to those with BQE Core experience and understanding of QuickBooks through Online certifications or experience.

Working Conditions

This position is on-site at our Ottawa office.

Duties
  • Prepare invoices for Engineering Services completed using BQE Software.  
  • Open new projects using software which will track client details, project financial KPI’s, assist in the maintenance of the books of account (including but not limited to preparing checks, coding and posting invoices, preparing deposits, journal entries, reconciliations, petty cash)
  • Issuing of checks / payment of invoices for subcontractors and operational expenses
  • Maintain up-to-date, complete and systematic filing system to support book-keeping and financial records
  • Assist Engineering Staff as needed to review financial performance of projects.
  • Candidate Specifications
  • Experience in accounting an asset.
  • Excellent computer skills and skillset to understand new accounting software and project management software such as BQE Core.
  • Excellent communication skills both verbal and written
  • Understanding of computerized accounting systems
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Word, Quick-books Online and Excel
  • Accuracy and attention to detail while working under tight deadlines
  • Assertive, comfortable communicating with various types of individuals
  • Good interpersonal and customer service skills
  • Billing experience is an asset
  • Good team player
  • Able to build and maintain lasting relationships with corporate departments and key business partners
  • Ability to follow through and complete overlapping projects
  • Good organizational, time management and prioritizing skills
  • Strong problem identification and problem resolution skills
  • High level of critical and logical thinking, analysis, and/or reasoning to identify underlying principles, reasons, or facts
  • Ability to interpret and implement company policies and procedures
