Homewood Suites Ottawa

The Homewood Suites by Hilton offers home-like comforts perfect for an extended stay or a weekend getaway close to the Ottawa International Airport. LRL joined this project as the mechanical and electrical consultant to construct a new six-storey hotel with amenities such as a breakfast serving and seating area, swimming pool, meeting rooms, gym, and outdoor putting green.

The hotel was constructed using insulated concrete forms (ICF) and pre-casted concrete slab floors. The mechanical and electrical systems included a large rooftop ERV unit, a backup generator, and a central hot water system for the rooms, kitchen and laundry facilities. 

As the principal mechanical and electrical consultant, LRL collaborated with the general contractor, the project management, the client and the architect to develop a cost-effective building to meet the client's expectations. The project was developed and completed as a conventional design process and finished on schedule and within budget.

The LRL was also responsible for:

• Reviewing background data
• Participating in regular designed and construction meetings
• Preparing detailed mechanical and electrical engineering designs
• Effectively communicate with the architect, the project manager, the general contractor, the city, and the end-users
• Providing construction management services to assist the contractor and their sub-trades
• Conducting regular inspections and reports, including the final inspection and certificate
